25-26 Conference Previews - Northern Lakes (WI)

Team Previews:

Crandon Cardinals (2024-25 season: 13-12 overall, 9-1 conference, t-1st)
Graduated three All-Conference picks from last season, including Conference POY Jaxon Keepers. Deegan Kircher is back for his junior season after being named 2nd-Team All-Conference. Kircher averaged 13.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. They do have some good pieces who saw time on varsity last season that are now juniors in Logan Jaeger (5.8 PPG) and Konner Gerow (4.5 PPG). Gerow gives some added depth at 6'5".

Elcho Hornets (2024-25 season: 0-18 overall, 0-10 conference, 6th)
I hope the Hornets can put something together this season. They lost their leading scorer from last season, their only double digit scorer. According to their roster from last season, they will return three players from the team (if everyone comes back). I could be missing a few players, but depth in general could be a concern for them.

Florence Bobcats (2024-25 season: 6-16 overall, 3-7 conference, t-4th)
One of the most interesting teams in the conference this season. Truth Setner is back after being named 1st-Team All-Conference as a junior and leading the team in scoring. Carson Chrisman was named Honorable Mention All-Conference as a freshman after being second on the team in scoring. Along with that they bring back three juniors in Caleb Baker, Mason Koski, and Bradly Steber, who all saw meaningful minutes a season ago.

Goodman-Pembine Patriots (2024-25 season: 7-19 overall, 3-7 conference, t-4th)
One returning All-Conference selection in Wailer Severson (2nd-Team). He was second on the team with 9.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Kalvin Jonas (7.4 PPG) and Vinnie Ipsa (6.0 PPG) both are juniors who shot the ball very well from three a season ago. Jonas shot 38.8% (26-67) and Ipsa shot 35.5% (22-62) from three.

Phelps Knights (2024-25 season: N/A overall, N/A conference, N/A)
Haven't fielded a varsity basketball team recently.

Three Lakes Bluejays (2024-25 season: 11-15 overall, 6-4 conference, 3rd)
Easton Lurvey is coming off a really good freshman season, and if the Bluejays win the conference this season I could see him being Conference POY. He averaged 16.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season, including 36.0% (67-186) from three point range. Owen Liebscher was named Honorable Mention All-Conference as a sophomore. Bring back some other experienced players in Levi Lurvey, Grayson Polcaster, and Zach Weavers.

Wabeno/Laona Rebels (2024-25 season: 15-12 overall, 9-1 conference, t-1st)
The two seniors that they graduated averaged a combined 3.3 points per game. Northern Lakes Defensive POY, Cooper Albrecht is back for his junior season. Two 1st-Team All-Conference selections return in Albrecht (15.4 PPG) and Canton Chrisman (18.9 PPG). Along with 2nd-Team All-Conference pick Walker Winkelman (12.8 PPG). The biggest concern I have for this team is their three point shooting depth.

Projections:

1. Wabeno/Laona
2. Three Lakes
3. Florence
4. Crandon
5. Goodman-Pembine
6. Elcho
7. Phelps

Conference Overview:
As of right now I think Wabeno/Laona is the odds on favorite to win the conference. They return the most, and their best players were young a season ago. Three Lakes is probably going to be their biggest competition, since I don't think they are too far behind when you talk about talent coming back. Florence is a team that if they play really well could win conference, but it doesn't seem likely to pass both of the previously named teams. I think Crandon graduated too much to be a team to beat, but middle of the road seems like the place for them. Goodman-Pembine graduated some size and experience, I just think this is going to be a bit of a reloading season. Elcho just has some work to do, never like to see teams struggle with roster sizes.
